Summary:

Today’s selection is from Surah 40, which goes by two names, Ghãfir which means Forgiver or Al-Mu’min or the Believer, verses 21-37. These verses claim that those who denied the Prophets and God’s revelations were all destroyed, case in point, the Pharaoh of Egypt and his leaders, Hamãn and Qarün. The Pharaoh intended to kill Prophet Moses but even one of his relatives gave a speech in favor of the Prophet.

These verses declare that he who turns away from remember of Allah, Allah will appoint a Shaitan (or evil one) to be his intimate friend. Hold fast to the Qur’an if you want to be right guided. Lastly, a quick vignette of Prophet Moses’ fight with the Pharaoh of Egypt and the Pharaoh’s fate for ridiculing Moses.

Then it discusses the assignment of Prophet Moses as a Messenger and his dialogue with the Pharaoh of Egypt as well as Moses’ miracles.

Today’s selection concludes Surah 17, Al-Isrâ or the Night Journey, verses 94-111. In this selection, we are told that God sent a human messenger to humans, just as he would’ve sent an angel messenger if the dwellers of Earth were angels. Only disbelievers doubt life after death. Moses, himself, was given nine signs but people didn’t believe him. Now, the Qur’an has been revealed in sections to suit each occasion. Lastly, we are counseled to offer Prayers in a moderate voice, neither too loud, nor too soft.
