Lastly, the descendants of Prophet Abraham, including Moses, Jesus and Muhammad were not mushrikïn, or those who associate others with God.

Today’s selection is from Surah 12, Yüsuf or Joseph, verses 58-79. These verses continue the story of Prophet Joseph after he had been appointed as a member of the King’s cabinet. Joseph’s brother’s had to come to Egypt to get food and grain. Joseph, who was unrecognized by his brothers, commanded them to bring Benjamin, his younger brother. Joseph’s brothers convinced their father to let them bring Benjamin, to whom Joseph revealed his identity and then hatched a plan to retain Benjamin in his services.

These verses continue the story of Prophet Joseph after he was falsely accused of trying to seduce his master’s wife and thrown into jail. In jail, he interpreted his fellow inmates’ dreams. One was subsequently released and several years later, he came to Joseph to interpret the King of Egypt’s dreams, which told of a famine to come. With the help of his former inmate, Joseph was exonerated of his crimes and then brought before the King and given a special place by the King’s side.

Surah 40 (Ghãfir/Al-Mu’min), Verses 21-37 (Y6)

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Summary:

Today’s selection is from Surah 40, which goes by two names, Ghãfir which means Forgiver or Al-Mu’min or the Believer, verses 21-37. These verses claim that those who denied the Prophets and God’s revelations were all destroyed, case in point, the Pharaoh of Egypt and his leaders, Hamãn and Qarün. The Pharaoh intended to kill Prophet Moses but even one of his relatives gave a speech in favor of the Prophet.
