Today’s selection is from Surah 6, Al-An‘âm or the Cattle, verses 71-90. These verses establish that believers are commanded to submit to God’s will, to establish Prayer and to fear God. Prophet Abraham learned faith through studying nature. The mushrikïn’s arguments against Prophet Abraham and the existence of Allah are laid out. Lastly, the descendants of Prophet Abraham, including Moses, Jesus and Muhammad were not mushrikïn, or those who associate others with God.

Today’s selection concludes Surah 29, Al-‘Ankabüt or the Spider, verses 31-44. These verses tell of how the people of Prophet Lot and the nations of ‘Ad, Thamüd and Madyan as well as the Pharaoh of Egypt and his people rejected the Messengers of God and were destroyed as a result. Also told is the parable of those who take protectors other than God.

Today’s selection is from Surah 11, Hüd, verses 69-83. These verses tell of the good news sent to Prophet Abraham of the coming births of a son, Isaac, and later, his grandson Jacob. Next the story of Prophet Lot and his mission and challenges with the peoples of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Tafseer for this selection concerns Lot’s daughters in verse 78 and a further explanation of the fates of Sodom and Gomorrah told in verse 83.

Today’s selection is from Surah 27, An-Naml or the Ants, verses 45-58. These verses tell the story of the people of Thamud and the secret plot against the Prophet Salih whose teaching they thought brought them bad luck. Their plot was foiled and the whole community, which was involved in evil, was destroyed.
