Summary

Today’s selection is from Surah 21, Al-Anbiyã’ or the Prophets, verses 51-75. These verses tell the story of how Prophet Abraham questioned the idol-worshiping of his father and his people. Abraham broke all their idols to show them that their so-called gods couldn’t defend themselves and would be of no help to the people. Abraham’s people decided to burn him alive but God made the fire feel cool and comfortable to him. God then blessed Prophet Abraham with Isaac and Jacob, both of whom became Prophets.

Today’s selection is the entirety of Surah 66, At-Tahrïm or the Prohibition, verses 1-12. The topics covered in this Surah are: do not make something lawful which Allah has made unlawful. The wives of the Prophet (pbuh) are admonished regarding their behavior with him. Believers are commanded to turn to Allah in repentance. And lastly, the example of the wives of Noah and Lot who will go to Hell while the wives of the Pharaoh of Egypt and Maryam, mother of Prophet Jesus, will go to Paradise.

The verses selected talk of the arrogance of the unbelievers in rejecting the message of the Prophets sent to them by God. It tells the story of Prophet Daûd, or David, and the two men who came to him asking for his guidance in a dispute.
