Summary:

Today’s selection concludes Surah 40, which goes by two names, Ghãfir which means Forgiver or Al-Mu’min or the Believer, verses 69-85. These verses assert that those who argue about the revelations in the Qur’an will soon learn the truth. God has sent many Messengers before Prophet Muhammad (pbuh); some are mentioned in the Qur’an and some are not. In another example, cattle are held up as a sign for people of understanding. Belief after seeing the scourge of God will not avail the disbelievers.

Today’s selection is from Surah 40, which goes by two names, Ghãfir which means Forgiver or Al-Mu’min or the Believer, verses 38-50. These verses continue the story of Prophet Moses’ confrontation with the Pharaoh of Egypt. In the previous selection, a believer from the Pharaoh’s own family had spoken out in favor of Prophet Moses’ message. In this selection, God saved that believer from the plots of Pharaoh and destroyed his people; they are then presented at the fires of Hell, morning and evening.

These verses claim that those who denied the Prophets and God’s revelations were all destroyed, case in point, the Pharaoh of Egypt and his leaders, Hamãn and Qarün. The Pharaoh intended to kill Prophet Moses but even one of his relatives gave a speech in favor of the Prophet.

These verses encourage all to believe in God for he is perfect in knowledge and power, forgives sin and accepts repentance and justly enforces His law. Those who reject Him are in deceit. His glory is sung by the highest and purest. Give all devotion to Him alone.
