Summary
Today’s selection concludes Surah 55, Ar-Rahmân or the Most Gracious, with verses 46-78. In this selection, we learn that the righteous will be justly rewarded in heaven as well as the content of that reward, while the unfaithful are still questioned as to which of these aspects of God’s providence they still choose to deny.
There is also a short tafseer concerning the word “Hûri”, which has been mis-interpreted so often by the western mainstream media.

Verses
Bis-millahi ar-rahman, ar-raheem.
In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful.For those who fear standing before their Lord, there will be two gardens.[46] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[47] Having shady trees with lush green branches.[48] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[49] In both of them there will be two flowing springs.[50] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[51] In both of them there will be two kinds of every fruit.[52] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[53] They will recline on couches lined with rich brocade while the fruit of the gardens will be within their easy reach.[54] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[55] Therein will be chaste companions, whom neither man nor jinn has touched before.[56] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[57] So beautiful as though they were rubies and corals.[58] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[59] 55:[46-59]
Could the reward for goodness be anything but goodness?[60] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[61]
And besides these two there shall be two other gardens.[62] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[63] Densely shaded with dark green trees.[64] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[65] In both of them there will be two gushing springs.[66] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[67] Each planted with fruit trees, dates and pomegranates.[68] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[69] In each of them, there will be chaste and beautiful companions.[70] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[71] Hûris sheltered in their tents.[72] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[73] Whom neither man nor Jinn has ever touched before.[74] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[75] Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.[76] Then, O jinns and men, which of your Lord’s favors will both of you deny?[77] Blessed be the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.[78] 55:[60-78]

Tafseer
The noted translator A. Yusuf Ali has this to say concerning the word, Hûr:
Hûr implies the following ideas: (1) purity; possibly the word Hawariyûn, as applied to the first Disciples of Jesus, is connected with this root; (2) beauty, especially of eyes, where the intense white of the eyeballs stands out against the intense black of the pupil, thus giving the appears of lustre, and intense feeling, as opposed to dullness or want of expression; and (3) truth and goodwill.
