Surah 41 (Fussilât), Verses 19-32 (Y7)

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Summary

Today’s selection is from Surah 41, Fussilât (or Expounded), verses 19-32. These verses details the proceedings of the Day of Judgment when people’s own body parts (ears, eyes, etc) will bear witness against them for their misdeeds. These people who do not heed the Qur’an will be punished while those who affirm their fidelity to Allah will be assigned angels for their protection.

Verses

Bis-millahi ar-rahman, ar-raheem.
In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful.

Imagine that Day when the enemies of Allah will be brought together and marched to the hell-fire in ranks.[19] Finally when they will reach there, their ears, their eyes, and their skins will testify to what they used to do.[20] And they will ask their skins: “Why did you testify against us?” Their skins will reply: “Allah Who gives the faculty of speech to everything, has made us speak. He is the One Who created you to begin with, and now to Him you are being brought back.[21] During your life on earth you never thought it necessary to hide yourselves while committing crimes, you never even thought that your own ears, your own eyes and your own skins would testify against you. Rather you thought that even Allah had no knowledge of many things that you do.[22] This thought of yours, which you entertained concerning your Lord, has brought you to destruction and now you have become of those who are utterly lost.”[23] 41:[19-23]

So even if they are patient, the fire will still be their home, and if they beg for pardon, it shall not be granted to them.[24] And we have destined for them intimate companions (of like nature), who made alluring to them what was before them and behind them; And the sentence among the previous generations of Jinns and men, who have passed away, is proved against them; For they are utterly lost.[25] 41:[24-25]

The disbelievers say: “Do not listen to this Qur’an and make noise when it is recited so that you may gain the upper hand.”[26] We will certainly cause those who disbelieve to taste a severe punishment, and requite them for the worst of their misdeeds.[27] The reward of the enemies of Allah is hell, which will be their eternal home: a reward for their denying Our revelations.[28] Wherein, the disbelievers will say: “Our Lord! Show us those among Jinns and mankind who misled us: we shall trample them under our feet so that they become the lowest.”[29] 41:[26-29]

Surely, those who say: “Our Lord is Allah,” and then stay firm on it, the angels will descend on them, at the time of their death, saying: “Do not be frightened or grieved, but be delighted at the good news of paradise that you have been promised.[30] We are your protectors in this life and in the hereafter. There you shall find all that your souls desire and all that you can ask for:[31] A hospitable gift from the All-Forgiving, All-Merciful.”[32] 41:[30-32]

Ameen.
