Surah 37 (As-Sãffãt), Verses 1-21 (Y6)

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Summary

Today’s selection is from Surah 37, As-Sãffãt or Those Ranged in Ranks, verses 1-21. Verses 1-11 deal with the oneness of God as well as the proposition that Satan (shaitan) will not prevail and cannot even hear the chorus of Angels. Verses 12-21 deal with the disbelief of the unbelievers at the prospect of being brought back to life on the Day of Judgment.

Verses

Bis-millahi ar-rahman, ar-raheem.
In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful.

I swear by those who arrange themselves in ranks,[1] by those who drive away devils, [2] and by those who proclaim the message of Allah,[3] that surely, your God is One (Allah),[4] the Rabb of the heavens and of the earth, and all that lies between them, and the Rabb of the easts (every point of the sun rising).[5] We have indeed decked the worldly heaven with beautiful stars[6] and to secure it against all obstinate rebellious shaitâns.[7] They cannot even hear the words of the exalted assembly of angels and they are darted at from every side if they try to get closer; [8] they are repulsed and are under a constant chastisement.[9] Eavesdroppers are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness.[10] Ask them: “What is more difficult – their creation or the rest of Our creation? – Them We have created out of a sticky clay.[11] 37:[1-11]

You marvel at their insolence, while they mock at you and the Qur’an. [12] When they are admonished, they pay no heed.[13] When they see a sign, they mock at it,[14] and say: “This is nothing but plain sorcery.[15] What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we be raised to life again[16] – we and also our forefathers of the ancient time?”[17] Tell them: “Yes, and you shall then be humiliated.”[18] It will be just a single shout, and they will see it all with their own eyes.[19] “Ah, woe to us!” They shall exclaim, “this is the Day of Judgement!”[20] It will be said: “Yes, this is the same Day of Judgement which you used to deny.”[21] 37:[12-21]

Ameen.

This concludes today’s episode of the 17 Verses Podcast. I hope that this selection has helped increase your understanding of the holy Qur’an just a little bit.

Thank you and be well.
