As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.
Today’s selection is from Surah 15, Al-Hijr or the Rocky Tract, verses 45-60. These verses assert that the righteous will be awarded paradise and then tells of the good news of a son given to Prophet Abraham by two angels.
Tafseer for this selection focuses on the benefits of sincere devotion to Allah mentioned in verse 47.
Bis-millahi ar-rahman, ar-raheem.
In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful.
The righteous will be in the midst of the gardens and fountains of paradise and it will be said to them: “Enter into these in peace and security.” And we shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury: (They will be) brothers (joyfully) faceing each other on thrones of (dignity). No fatigue will touch them in there, nor will they ever be asked to leave. O Prophet! Tell My devotees that I am indeed the Forgiving, the Merciful; but at the same time My punishment is also the most painful punishment. 15:[45-50]
Tell them about the guests of Ibrãhïm (Abraham). They entered upon them and said: “Peace be upon you!” But he replied: “Surely we are afraid of you.” They answered: “Do not be afraid of us! We have come to you with good news of a son endowed with knowledge.” He said: “Are you giving me the good news of a son when I have become old? What kind of good news you are giving?” They replied: “We are giving you true good news; you should not be of those who despair.” He said: “Who would despair of the mercy of his Lord except one who goes astray?” Then he asked: “On what expedition you have been sent, O emissaries of Allah?” They replied: “We have been sent to punish a criminal nation, with the exception of Lüt’s (Lot’s) family; we will certainly rescue them all except his wife, who, Allah says, has been destined to remain with those who will stay behind.” 15:[51-60]
On the benefits of sincere devotion to Allah mentioned in verse 47:
To be sincere in the worship of Allah is to obtain purification from all stain of evil and exemption from all influence of evil. It changes the whole nature of man. After that, evil cannot touch him. Evil will acknowledge him to be beyond its power and will not even tempt him. Apart from such purified souls, everyone who worships Allah invites Allah’s grace to protect him. But if he puts himself in the way of wrong and deliberately chooses evil, he must take the consequences. The blame is not even on Satan, the power of Evil: it is on the sinner himself, who puts himself into his his power.
This concludes today’s episode of the 17 Verses Podcast. I hope that this selection has helped increase your understanding of the holy Qur’an just a little bit.
