As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Summary

Welcome to a bonus episode of the 17 Verses podcast. As today is the first day of Ramadan (at least in my neck of the woods), I wanted to wish everyone Ramadan Kareem and also re-release a selection from Surah 2, Al-Baqarah or the Cow, verses 183-196. These verses concern fasting and prayer, as well as issues of defending one’s faith from aggressors during the month of Ramadan.

Today’s selection is from Surah 17, Al-Isrâ or the Night Journey, verses 1-22. Surah 48 (Al-Fath), Verses 18-29 (Y6)

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Summary

Today’s selection concludes Surah 48, Al-Fath or the Victory, verses 18-29. These verses declare that God was well-pleased with those who swore allegiance to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) before the treaty of Hudaibiyah. Had there not been believers in Makkah, God would have allowed the Muslims to fight against the Quraysh. Next, the Qur’an discusses the vision which the Prophet received of conquering Makkah. And lastly, the characteristics of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his followers are laid out.

Surah 9 (At-Tauba), Verses 17-29 (Y6)

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Summary

Today’s selection is from Surah 9, At-Tauba or Repentance, verses 17-29. These verses cover a number of subjects. The Mushrikeen (or those who associate others with Allah) cannot be caretakers of mosques. Service to pilgrims who come on the Haaj is not equal to true belief in God. Do not take your fathers and brothers as friends if they prefer Kufr (unbelief) over Imaan (belief). Lastly, God only helps the qualities of followers, not the quantity of them.

As-salaam wa-alaikum, brothers and sisters.

Summary

Today’s selection is from Surah 9, At-Tauba or the Repentance, verses 1-16. These verses contain a proclamation to dissolve treaties with Pagans who have broken their terms but four months is given for adjustments or repentance.

Tafseer contains an explanation regarding the treatment of unbelievers, or Pagans, as well as a reveal on something you might miss during the recitation. Can you guess what it is?
